Nigeria's TCN arrests suspect after Yola‑Jalingo transmission tower sabotage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) discovered that six 330kV transmission towers (T995, T998, T999, T1002, T1003 and T1004) on the Yola‑Jalingo line had been vandalised on 29 July 2026. Vandals removed roughly 130 critical bracing members, compromising the structural integrity of the line.

TCN and the Nigeria Police Force conducted a joint operation on 30 July, engaging local leaders and youth representatives in the host community. On 1 August the police announced the arrest of a principal suspect and the recovery of part of the stolen tower components. TCN called for the suspect’s full prosecution, highlighted leads obtained from the detainee, and urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity around power infrastructure.
