Nigeria's TETFund Bars Institutions with Delayed Projects from 2027 Funding Cycle
The Board of Trustees of Nigeria's Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), chaired by Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, announced that any university, polytechnic or college of education that fails to complete projects delayed beyond six months will be denied access to new projects in the 2027 intervention allocation. All beneficiary institutions must submit a detailed inventory of overdue projects, explain the causes, propose remedies, rank them by priority and provide cost estimates. They are also required to set up robust supervision teams that include their Physical Planning and Maintenance Departments.
The Board reiterated that a special intervention line introduced in 2023 to finish distressed projects had yielded positive results, but persistent delays are blamed on rising construction material costs, frequent changes in institutional leadership, and internal bureaucracy that slows contractor payments. Director of Public Affairs Abdulmumin Oniyangi issued the statement in Abuja, emphasizing that TETFund‑sponsored projects must not be undermined by internal politics.
