Nigeria's Umahi Threatens SOKAPU Over Mary Habila Death Suit

Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has filed a ₦20 billion lawsuit seeking an independent forensic autopsy and a fresh police investigation into the death of 26‑year‑old physiotherapist Mary Habila at Minister of Works David Umahi’s country home in Uburu, Ebonyi State on or about 27 June. The suit also demands damages, alleging that the minister owed Habila a duty of care while in his custody.

SOKAPU alleges that Umahi contacted the group’s national president, Engr. Tabara Samuel Kato, via WhatsApp on 28 July and threatened him, saying, “I am David Umahi… I will teach you a lesson of your life…”. The union condemned the alleged intimidation and called on President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly and security agencies to intervene. SOKAPU asked the court to order an independent autopsy by pathologists from ABUTH, UCH and the National Hospital, Abuja, and to prevent the burial of Habila’s body until the investigation is completed.
