Nigeria's University Staff Union Extends Indefinite Strikes Over Salary Arrears
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Adekunle Ajasin University in Ondo State says its members have not received salary payment alerts despite the state governor releasing a special intervention fund of over N1.1 billion. Chairman Bolu Oshodi warned that the indefinite strike, which began on 10 July 2026, will continue until lecturers confirm receipt of the overdue May‑July salaries in their bank accounts.
Separately, the ASUU branch at Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology in Kebbi State issued a two‑week ultimatum to the state government, demanding full implementation of the federal 2025 ASUU agreement effective 1 January 2026. The union threatened an indefinite strike if the outstanding welfare issues and salary arrears are not resolved, emphasizing that industrial action remains a last resort after failed dialogue.
