Nigeria VP Shettima pushes $1 trillion economy plan at Lagos investment summit
Vice President Kashim Shettima said Nigeria’s ambition to reach a $1 trillion economy will be driven by enterprise, investment and coordinated reforms at both federal and sub‑national levels. Speaking at the Invest Lagos 3.0 Summit in Lagos, he highlighted Lagos State as a model of how effective sub‑national leadership can accelerate national economic transformation, describing the city as “the livewire of our continent” and a testing ground for ideas and execution.
Shettima praised former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu for laying the foundation of the city’s development model and commended Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu for sustaining its growth momentum. He noted that recent macro‑economic reforms aim to restore market confidence, improve fiscal sustainability and attract large‑scale private investment, even if some decisions have been difficult. Shettima also pointed to Nigeria’s demographic profile and its position within the African Continental Free Trade Area as long‑term advantages for becoming a leading production, logistics and innovation hub in Africa.
