Nigeria's Vice President Shettima backs child and youth development programmes

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the Renewed Hope Baby Support (RHBS) programme, a national human‑capital infrastructure initiative aimed at giving every Nigerian child a structured identity, health coverage and long‑term financial opportunities. The programme, launched by the North East Development Commission and linked to President Bola Tinubu’s 2026 "Year of the Family and Social Protection," was presented to Shettima at the State House, Abuja, with calls for coordination among the NEDC, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and other agencies.

Shettima also took part in the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) Employers’ Forum in Lagos, where the Vice President, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, UNDP, the European Union and private‑sector leaders discussed ways to curb rising youth unemployment. The forum highlighted the NJFP’s role in bridging the gap between tertiary education and the labour market through mentorship, placements and skills training, urging sustained public‑private‑development partner collaboration to expand job opportunities for young graduates.
