Nigeria‑US bilateral trade reaches $15 billion in 2025, up 14%
U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Keith Heffern announced that bilateral trade between the United States and Nigeria grew 14 percent in 2025, reaching nearly $15 billion. The increase confirms Nigeria as the United States’ second‑largest trading partner in Sub‑Saharan Africa, with more than 100 U.S. companies operating in the country.
The trade boost is linked to the five‑year U.S.–Nigeria Commercial and Investment Partnership, now in its second year, which brings together about 50 U.S. and Nigerian firms to remove barriers and expand cooperation in agriculture, the digital economy and infrastructure. The partnership also supports security collaboration, including recent joint efforts by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the U.S. DEA to dismantle a transnational drug‑trafficking network, and enhanced maritime security ties highlighted by U.S. Naval Forces Africa participation in the Nigerian Navy’s 70th‑anniversary celebrations. Cultural exchanges, such as the growing influence of Nigerian Afrobeats alongside American Motown, were also noted, as was the construction of a new U.S. Consulate General complex in Eko Atlantic.
