Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen reveals six new songs for upcoming album

Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and primary songwriter for the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, has revealed that he has written six songs for the group's upcoming eleventh studio album. Speaking to Metal Hammer, Holopainen expressed high levels of inspiration regarding the new material.

While the band is currently on a hiatus from live performances, Holopainen indicated that the group has “reserved things” for 2027, suggesting potential studio time for the follow-up to their 2024 album, “Yesterwynde”. He noted that a return to touring is unlikely next year, stating, “The year after, possibly?” He emphasized his intention to complete another album before returning to the live stage.

The band's hiatus, which began in early 2023, was a collective decision made to avoid burnout. In addition to his work with Nightwish, Holopainen is a member of the folk band Auri alongside Johanna Kurkela and Troy Donockley.
