Nigrán commemorates centenary of Vigo-Val Miñor tramway
The Nigrán City Council has launched a series of events to commemorate the centenary of the electric tramway line that connected Vigo to the Val Miñor region via A Ramallosa. The line operated from September 1926 until late 1968.
The commemorative program begins with a lecture by historian María Álvarez-Blázquez titled “The transformation of Val Miñor with the arrival of the electric railway.” Subsequent activities include film screenings of “Tranvía a la Malvarrosa” and various documentaries, a discussion on modern mobility challenges, and an exhibition held at the A Ramallosa Senior Center, which occupies the former station building.
Mayor Juan González noted that the tramway is a vital element of the collective memory and cultural identity of the region. He highlighted that A Ramallosa served as the nerve center for the line, housing the tramway sheds, and emphasized the importance of preserving local historical memory.
