Nigrán funds Panacea addiction and mental health program

The Nigrán City Council has allocated 5,000 euros to continue the Panacea program, an initiative led by the Alborada association. The program provides free assistance to individuals aged 12 to 39 who are at risk of mental health issues linked to various forms of addiction.

Launched in August 2024 due to a rise in addiction cases in the Val Miñor region since 2023, the program currently serves 34 people, with an average age of 19 to 20. While many cases involve traditional substances, the program also addresses modern behavioral addictions, including vaping, screen time, online gambling, tobacco, and energy drink consumption.

Mayor Juan González noted that while results are positive, a significant challenge remains in reaching the older population, as most current participants are under 30. The youngest participant is 12 years old. The program operates through collaboration with local health, social, and educational services.
