Nigrán volunteers collect 20kg of waste from Muíños River
Volunteers collected approximately 20 kilograms of waste from the mouth of the Muíños River at Praia América in Nigrán during the XIX Simultaneous Cleanup. Organized by the environmental association Adega as part of the ‘Móllate polos Ríos’ project, the event involved nine participants who gathered about three bags of refuse.
The collected waste consisted primarily of plastic containers, such as bottles and cups, though a surfboard was noted as a particularly striking item found among the debris. While the amount of waste collected was lower than in previous years, the initiative aims to raise public awareness regarding waste management and the protection of river ecosystems.
Nigrán has participated in this environmental awareness program since 2015. Over the past eleven years, volunteer efforts in the A Foz estuary and the Muíños River have removed more than two tons of waste, including glass bottles, construction materials, fishing gear, umbrellas, and toys.
