Niigata companies Ishibashi Shoten and Nihon Tsusho file for bankruptcy

Two companies based in Niigata Prefecture have received bankruptcy commencement orders from the Niigata District Court.

Ishibashi Shoten, a long-established construction machinery leasing and wholesale business in Niigata City, filed for bankruptcy following a decline in orders caused by intense competition and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company, which once saw peak sales of approximately 335 million yen, saw revenue drop to about 79 million yen in the fiscal year ending February 2022. It had previously resolved to dissolve during a shareholders' meeting in January 2026. Total liabilities amount to approximately 12 million yen.

Nihon Tsusho, a manufacturer of household metalware and storage products in Tsubame City, has also entered bankruptcy proceedings. While the company saw a temporary revenue boost to 200 million yen during the pandemic due to increased demand for home goods, sales fell to approximately 80 million yen by the fiscal year ending August 2025. Persistent losses and heavy debt burdens led to insolvency. The company's total liabilities are approximately 189.9 million yen.
