Niihama National College of Technology hosts battery education summer school

Niihama National College of Technology held the ‘COMPASS 5.0 Battery Education Summer School in Niihama’ from August 19 to 21. The event was part of the ‘Society 5.0 Future Technology Human Resource Development Project’ promoted by the National Institute of Technology, aimed at cultivating next-generation talent in the rechargeable battery sector.

The college utilized the summer school as a testing ground for an ‘educational package’ that includes experimental materials, lesson plans, instructional documents, and evaluation methods. Participants from various academic backgrounds, including mechanical, electrical, and information engineering, engaged in experiments involving nickel, Daniel, pseudo-lithium-ion, and lithium-ion batteries.

The program also featured industry insights from the Battery Supply Chain Council (BASC) and lectures from Sumitomo Metal Mining and Prime Planet Energy & Solutions. Additionally, an exchange session was held with alumni currently working at Sumitomo Metal Mining to help students consider future career paths in the battery industry.
