Niihama Taiko Festival traditions showcased in Ehime and Osaka

The Niihama Taiko Festival, a traditional cultural event from Niihama, Ehime Prefecture, has seen recent activities including local celebrations and regional demonstrations.

In October 2026, the Ichinomiya no Mori Museum event was held at Ichinomiya Shrine. The festival featured 11 Taikodai from the Kawanishi district parading through the shrine's approach, which is surrounded by camphor trees designated as national natural monuments. The event included “sashiage” performances, where the massive floats are lifted high, viewable from reserved seating areas.

Additionally, the Kishinoshita Taikodai was showcased in Suita, Osaka, on September 5, 2026. Held at the Izumiya Shopping Center Senrioka, the demonstration brought the traditional culture of Niihama to a different region, featuring both displays and powerful lifting performances.
