Nijkerk municipality declines camera surveillance for Hoevelaken station
The Nijkerk municipality has announced that camera surveillance will not be implemented at the Hoevelaken station parking lot for the time being. This decision follows inquiries regarding safety and nuisance at the site, which is shared between Nijkerk and Amersfoort. Reported incidents include theft from vehicles, bicycle theft, vandalism, and loitering.
While reports of incidents showed 38 cases in 2024 and 28 in 2025, local authorities noted that mobile cameras are reserved for maintaining public order during serious disturbances, rather than investigating theft or vandalism. To address ongoing concerns, the municipality plans to repeat a campaign against bicycle theft this autumn and install permanent warning signs.
