Nijmegen residents complete collective social housing project

A group of friends and family in Nijmegen, Netherlands, has successfully completed a social housing project through a Collective Private Enterprise. After years of planning, meetings regarding mortgages, and construction costs, thirteen participants have moved into eight wooden homes in the Nijmegen-Midden area.

The residents report a high level of social cohesion, noting that the living arrangement facilitates spontaneous community interactions. Examples include children playing together across households, neighbors sharing meals in communal gardens, and spontaneous group activities such as watching sports or organizing workdays. While the residents maintain individual privacy within their own homes, the project aims to foster a sense of living together rather than just living next to one another.
