Nik Đeljošaj links Coastal Zone boundaries to minority rights

Nik Đeljošaj, Montenegro's Minister of Economic Development and leader of the Albanian Forum, has stated that the issue of the Coastal Zone, specifically its boundaries in Ulcinj, is a matter of human and minority rights rather than just an economic concern. He emphasized that these issues must be addressed within the framework of EU Chapter 23.

Đeljošaj is working alongside Minister Maraš Dukaj to prepare amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government to promote stronger decentralization and provide legal guarantees for minority environments. He warned that the irresponsible actions of certain government sectors regarding minority rights could unnecessarily burden Montenegro's progress toward EU accession.

To address these concerns, a letter will be sent via EU member state embassies in Montenegro to their respective governments. This letter will detail the current state of minority rights, provide specific examples of discrimination, and identify the political and institutional actors preventing the resolution of these issues.
