Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Rentis organizes Kokkinias Block memorial events

The Municipality of Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Rentis is organizing a series of commemorative events titled ‘40 days after…’ to honor the victims of the Kokkinias Block. The program, which runs from September 15 to September 30, 2026, aims to preserve collective memory through culture, music, and poetry.

A key highlight is the 9th Kokkinias Block Guitar Festival, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, at the historic Kokkinias Block Warehouse. The festival features two musical segments: the Santa Barbara Guitar Orchestra performing ‘Songs That Never Fell Silent’ and the Guitar Orchestra of the Nikaia Municipal Conservatory presenting ‘They Set Me in a Corner,’ a tribute to victims of Nazi atrocities.

The central commemoration will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The ceremony includes a memorial service and wreath-laying at the memorial for Athanasios K. Champilidis, followed by a central event at the 17th of August ’44 Square. This event will feature poetry readings by local students, a historical lecture by Efthymios Priovolos, and official wreath-laying by the Mayor and local representatives.
