Nikaia: Military weapons and grenades found on apartment rooftop

Military-grade weapons and explosives were discovered on the rooftop of an apartment building on Nestoros Street in Nikaia, Greece, on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

A building manager found a military-style box containing two hand grenades, an old firearm, and more than 150 cartridges. Preliminary reports suggest the items are old, rusted military materials that may have belonged to a deceased elderly resident of the building.

Emergency services, including police, the Fire Service, and an ambulance, responded to the scene. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (TEEM) and a unit from the Greek Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (TENX) were called to secure and inspect the materials.
