Nikaido Museum of Art hosts traditional Japanese painting workshops

The Nikaido Museum of Art in Hiji, Oita Prefecture, is hosting workshops to encourage engagement with traditional Japanese painting. Participants in a recent session used mineral pigments (iwa-enogu) to create hanging scrolls (kakejiku), using works by modern Japanese painters depicting animals such as dogs and cats as models.

Participants described the experience as both challenging and enjoyable, noting the value of creating a physical keepsake. Another workshop session is scheduled for August 17.
