Nike initiates Pace restructuring and global reorganization

Nike is undergoing a major corporate restructuring known as the Pace program, aimed at achieving USD 2.5 billion in cumulative savings by fiscal 2031. Under CEO Elliott Hill, the company is shifting its strategic focus back to core athletic performance and product innovation following years of weak sales and criticism regarding its brand identity.

The restructuring includes significant workforce reductions, with employees expected to be notified of upcoming layoffs starting in 2027. To improve efficiency, Nike is reorganizing its global operations into three primary geographic regions: the Americas, Asia Pacific and Greater China, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Additionally, the company plans to open a new operational campus in Bengaluru, India, by fiscal 2028.

Financial challenges have driven these changes, including a 26% decline in sales in Greater China during the first quarter. Nike also forecasts a high-single-digit percentage revenue decline for fiscal year 2027, which is steeper than previous analyst expectations. The company is also working to address declines in the Jordan Brand and its sportswear segments by reducing the frequency of certain product launches and refocusing on wholesale partnerships.
