Zinedine Zidane begins tenure as France national team coach

Zinedine Zidane has begun his tenure as the head coach of the French national football team, marking a new era following the departure of Didier Deschamps. Zidane recently oversaw his first training session at Clairefontaine, accompanied by assistant David Bettoni and goalkeeper coach Fabien Barthez.

Kylian Mbappé, who remains the team captain, described the transition as “something out of a movie,” noting the long history he shares with Zidane dating back to his youth at Real Madrid. Amidst the squad's preparations for the UEFA Nations League against Turkey, Belgium, and Italy, Mbappé also addressed rumors of tension with teammate Ousmane Dembélé regarding the Ballon d'Or race, stating that they have spoken and remain friends.

Zidane’s first squad list includes several debutants, such as Jean Butez, who was called up to replace the injured Robin Risser. The new manager has also implemented changes to team protocols, including a move toward more sober arrivals at training camps to minimize media distractions. Zidane is expected to test tactical shifts, including potentially playing Mbappé as a left winger.
