Nike faces mixed Wall Street outlook amid turnaround efforts
Nike Inc. is navigating a complex period of restructuring and fluctuating demand as it prepares for its fiscal 2027 first-quarter results. While the company has seen growth in its Running category and North American wholesale revenue, significant headwinds persist in other major segments. Sportswear and Jordan Brand, which together account for approximately half of total revenue, have faced declines, and revenue in Greater China fell 17% in the fourth quarter.
Wall Street analysts remain divided on the company’s trajectory. Some firms, including Stifel, UBS, and Citi, have expressed concerns regarding deteriorating global sales trends, increased promotional activity in Western markets, and margin pressure. Stifel recently lowered its price target for Nike to $40.
Conversely, Freedom Broker issued a rare upgrade from ‘Sell’ to ‘Buy’, citing confidence in Nike’s long-term turnaround strategy. This optimism is tied to the Pace transformation program, an initiative designed to simplify operations and improve productivity with an expected $2.5 billion in cumulative savings through fiscal 2031. Despite recent quarterly revenue misses and a significant drop in stock price over the past year, some analysts believe the long-term potential of the restructuring outweighs near-term fundamental weaknesses.
