Nike faces revenue decline and major endorsement losses

Nike is facing significant financial and strategic challenges, marked by declining revenues and a loss of market dominance. Total revenues fell by 4% to $11.21 billion, with a particularly sharp 26% decline in sales in China. CEO Elliott Hill noted that the company’s lifestyle and Jordan brands are struggling to find momentum amidst high inflation and cautious consumer spending.

To combat these issues, Nike has launched the ‘Pace’ strategy, aiming to save approximately $2.5 billion by 2031. This plan includes a third wave of layoffs and organizational restructuring.

Compounding these financial struggles is a notable loss of high-profile endorsements. Major athletes such as Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, Tiger Woods, and Harry Kane have moved to competitors like On, Adidas, and Skechers. Additionally, Nike has lost several major football partnerships, including the Croatian national team, Turkey, Poland, and clubs such as Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt, most of whom have transitioned to Adidas.
