Nike unveils three-shoe racing system for diverse runner goals
Nike has announced a new three-shoe race-day footwear system designed to cater to different runner goals and experience levels rather than following a strict performance hierarchy. The lineup includes the Nike Apex, Alphafly 4, and Swooshfly.
The Alphafly 4 is the first to be released, arriving in stores and online this October. It is designed for long-distance balance, focusing on stability, energy return, and comfort over marathon distances using Air Zoom units.
The Nike Apex is positioned as the brand’s most advanced marathon performance technology, targeting elite runners looking to improve personal records. It is scheduled for release in January 2027.
The Swooshfly is intended as an accessible entry option for beginners or those running shorter distances like 10Ks or half-marathons, providing extra cushioning and support. This model is expected to launch in February 2027.
Bret Schoolmeester, Vice President of Nike Running Footwear, stated that the system allows runners to choose an experience based on their specific ambitions, whether they are chasing a breakthrough or stepping onto a starting line for the first time.
