On September 12, 1976, Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda achieved a historic comeback at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. This return occurred just 42 days after a near-fatal crash at the Nürburgring in Germany, where his Ferrari caught fire, causing severe burns and lung damage from toxic gases.

Despite the severity of his injuries, which required intensive care and left him with significant physical trauma, Lauda competed in the race while wearing a cloth covering his face to protect his wounds. He finished the race in fourth place, a result that underscored his mental and physical resilience.

His rapid return also had implications for the Ferrari team, which had begun considering other drivers, such as Carlos Reutemann, to replace him.
