Nikšić Municipality approves free childcare and major infrastructure investments

The Nikšić Municipality Assembly has passed several significant local measures, most notably a decision to provide free childcare. For the current 2026/2027 school year, the municipality will co-finance 50 percent of the costs for all children attending the JPU 'Dragan Kovačević' preschool, with retroactive payments for September and October. Starting from the 2027/2028 school year, childcare services at this institution will be fully funded by the municipality and free for all children.

In addition to social services, the assembly approved a 3 million euro loan from the European Investment Bank to fund the second phase of a sewage network project for four suburban settlements. The municipality also moved forward with a commercial development agreement with Big MNE. The company is set to invest approximately 12 million euros to construct a business facility, a project expected to create at least 150 new jobs.

Regarding urban mobility, the assembly unanimously approved measures for city and suburban transport. A contract will be signed with the Nikšić Bus Station, with officials suggesting that public transport services could commence in November and may be offered free of charge for an initial period.
