Nikica Micevski on the future of Croatian literature in the age of AI

Nikica Micevski, a member of the Croatian Association of Publishers and Booksellers and coordinator for the Croatian national stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair, has discussed the challenges and opportunities facing Croatian literature in an era dominated by algorithms, artificial intelligence, and social media trends like BookTok.

Micevski notes that while AI is changing how books are written, sold, and translated, smaller literary markets may possess an advantage due to their flexibility. He suggests that Croatian literature can find its place on the global map without losing its unique identity. He also highlighted that e-books and audiobooks have stimulated rather than killed the growth of printed books.

Furthermore, Micevski pointed out that children's and young adult literature is a category seeing constant growth, largely driven by domestic authors and illustrators rather than translations.
