Nikita Bier Leaves Product Chief Role at X, Remains Advisor

Nikita Bier announced on X that he is stepping down as head of product after roughly 400 days in the role, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster.” He will continue to work with the platform in an advisory capacity.

During his tenure, Bier said the team launched nearly 30 new products and rebuilt core experiences such as the Timeline, Android onboarding, notifications and chat. Notable features introduced include Country‑of‑Origin labels on user profiles and stronger defenses against AI‑driven bots. He also highlighted a rise of about 70 places in the Apple App Store rankings and claimed “unprecedented growth” in user acquisition and engagement.

Bier’s departure comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding the xAI‑developed chatbot Grok, which has been criticized for offensive outputs and for being used to generate non‑consensual explicit images. Product responsibilities will be divided among senior leaders: Benji Taylor will lead design, Jonah Katz will head iOS, and Mridul Singhai will co‑lead product development.
