Nikita Kucherov requests trade from Tampa Bay Lightning

Nikita Kucherov, the reigning NHL MVP and Tampa Bay Lightning's all-time leading scorer, has requested a trade from the organization. The request follows stalled contract negotiations between Kucherov, his agent Dan Milstein, and Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois.

Reports indicate that Kucherov declined an extension offer, which was reportedly around $15 million per year, seeking a higher salary commensurate with recent market trends. While Kucherov has expressed a desire to play in Canada, including potential interest from the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, the Lightning have issued a statement unequivocally denying any intention to trade the superstar winger.

Lightning head coach Jon Cooper stated that Kucherov remains fully committed to the team for the current season. Kucherov is in the final year of an eight-year, $76 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 season.
