Niko Kapetanić to present book on Paulina Bogdan-Bijelić's chronicles

Niko Kapetanić will present his new book, ‘Pisma Pauline Bogdan-Bijelić – Kronike dubrovačke i cavtajske’, on Thursday, October 22, at the St. Clare Monastery in Dubrovnik. The event is organized by the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities.

The book compiles letters and chronicles written by Paulina (Lina) Bogdan-Bijelić, a prominent Dubrovnik intellectual, teacher, and ethnographer. The collection includes her chronicles sent to Paris between 1897 and 1907 at the request of Baldo Bogišić. These uncensored documents provide a unique female perspective on daily life and significant events in Dubrovnik and Cavtat over a century ago.

Additionally, the work features Bogdan-Bijelić’s correspondence with the editorial board of the ‘Zbornik za narodni život i običaje Južnih Slavena’ from 1900 to 1940. The book is noted for its linguistic value, containing various proverbs, archaisms, and local Dubrovnik dialects.
