Borussia Dortmund extends Niko Kovač contract until 2029
Borussia Dortmund has officially extended the contract of head coach Niko Kovač until June 30, 2029. The decision follows a successful period for the club since Kovač took over in February 2025, when the team was in 11th place in the Bundesliga. Under his leadership, the club secured Champions League qualification and finished as Bundesliga runners-up last season.
In addition to Kovač, the club has extended the contracts of his coaching staff, including assistant Robert Kovač and Filip Tapalović, through 2029. Sporting Director Lars Ricken described the move as a sign of “continuity and stability,” noting the consistent development of the squad.
Reports indicate Kovač will earn an annual salary of approximately five million euros, with performance-based bonuses tied to results such as Champions League qualification. Kovač has established a record-breaking points-per-game average of 2.15 during his tenure at the club.
