Nikodem Grek, talented Polish basketball player, dies at 18

Nikodem Grek, a highly talented 18-year-old basketball player for Energa Trefl Sopot, has passed away after a battle with cancer. The club confirmed his death on October 18.

Grek had been diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer that had metastasized to his lymph nodes and lungs. His illness had previously prompted a widespread fundraising campaign within the Polish basketball community to support his treatment.

An accomplished youth player, Grek moved to Sopot at age 13 from Nenufar Ełk. His recent achievements included winning the Polish U17 championship, where he was named the tournament's MVP, and earning a silver medal in the U19 Polish championship earlier this year. He also competed regularly in the senior II league, averaging nearly 13 points per game.
