Nikol Pashinyan expands Armenian government talent pool and faces diaspora backlash

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has launched a government talent pool initiative, selecting 269 candidates from 29 different countries to join the nation's public administration. Out of 1,141 total applicants, the selected cohort has an average age of 33.3 years and is 42 percent female. While 93 percent of the participants are of Armenian descent, 7 percent are international specialists. More than 30 candidates have already received employment decisions, with 16 individuals assuming senior roles such as deputy ministerial posts.

Separately, Pashinyan’s visit to New York City for the United Nations General Assembly has caused internal friction within the Armenian diaspora. A meeting between the Prime Minister and members of the All-Armenian Student Association (ASA) led to the resignation of the Eastern Region ASA deputy director and another board member. Critics argued the meeting violated the organization’s apolitical policy and caused division among student chapters.
