Nikola Gruevski’s 2018 escape from Ohrid hotel to Hungary detailed

New information reported on a Channel 5 program reveals that former Macedonian prime minister Nikola Gruevski did not flee directly from his Skopje residence in November 2018. According to Aleksandar Malenko, Gruevski left the Royal View hotel on the shore of Lake Ohrid around 02:40 on 10 November 2018, using a Volkswagen Passat driven by his personal chauffeur while escorted by members of his personal security.

Malenko said Gruevski had arrived in Ohrid three days earlier, on 7 November, with two vehicles – a police‑escort car from the State Security Directorate and his private car. His wife and daughters remained at the hotel, and the stay was recorded as a VIP guest visit under standard security protocols. After departing Ohrid, Gruevski travelled through Albania, Montenegro and Serbia before reaching Budapest, Hungary. A Macedonian investigation into the escape remains open, with no prosecutions to date.
