Nikola Kalinic announces retirement from professional basketball
Nikola Kalinic, the 34-year-old Serbian basketball player, has announced his retirement from professional play after a 17-year career. Kalinic, who has played for major clubs including Fenerbahçe, Barcelona, and Valencia, spent a significant portion of his career with Crvena Zvezda.
Following his retirement, Kalinic will remain with Crvena Zvezda, transitioning from player to a member of the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Before making his final decision, Kalinic's name was reportedly considered by Greek clubs such as PAOK and Aris during the summer transfer window, though no concrete moves materialized.
In a farewell message, Kalinic reflected on his journey, noting his achievements in the EuroLeague and with the Serbian national team, including World Cup and Olympic success. He expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and fans for their support throughout his career.
