Jelena Karleuša concert cancelled in Germany over political statements
Teatro Club Essen has cancelled a scheduled performance by singer Jelena Karleuša, originally set for October 31, 2026. The club management stated the decision follows a review of the singer’s public statements regarding the political situation in Serbia.
The club emphasized that its venue is intended for music and entertainment rather than a platform for political propaganda. Management explicitly distanced itself from rhetoric that insults or devalues students and citizens fighting for their rights, noting that while individuals have the right to political opinions, there is a limit to using influence to deepen social divisions.
Following the cancellation, a dispute emerged on social media. Karleuša shared a version of the announcement claiming the show was cancelled due to “a large number of anonymous and serious threats to life.” However, Teatro Club Essen issued a statement labeling that version a “false message,” asserting that their original announcement regarding her political stances is the only official communication.
