Nikola Đokić trial begins for fatal Belgrade traffic accident
The trial of 25-year-old Nikola Đokić, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has commenced at the Higher Court in Belgrade. Đokić is accused of causing a fatal traffic accident in New Belgrade on October 26, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of a three-member family, including a nine-year-old boy, and left another individual with serious injuries.
According to the indictment, the accident occurred around 00:44 hours at the intersection of Omladinskih brigada and Bulevar heroja sa Košara. Prosecutors allege that Đokić was driving an Audi A4 while under the influence of 1.86 per mille of alcohol and marijuana. He reportedly failed to stop at a red light at a pedestrian crossing.
Đokić has pleaded guilty, expressing remorse for his actions. His defense requested his release from custody with a bail of 120,000 euros, but the request was rejected by the court. He faces a prison sentence of five to 15 years. The Belgrade Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the maximum sentence, along with a five-year driving ban and the permanent seizure of his vehicle.
