Nikolas Farantouris calls for EU Commission intervention in Greece
European Parliament member Nikolas Farantouris has requested intervention from the European Commission following allegations made by European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) chief Laura Kövesi. In a recent interview with Politico, Kövesi stated that “the most blatant attempt to intimidate the European Public Prosecutor's Office occurred in Greece.”
Farantouris, a member of the European Parliament's Committee on Budgets, expressed concern regarding the rule of law, judicial independence, and the protection of the EU budget. He emphasized that ensuring the safe and unobstructed operation of the EPPO is a legal and institutional obligation for all member states.
Farantouris is calling on the European Commission to officially address the allegations of intimidation and obstruction. He is also seeking specific actions to guarantee full cooperation between member states and the EPPO, as well as measures to protect the independence of European investigative authorities from political interference.
