The 16th edition of the Nikon Small World in Motion competition has recognized 31 works from scientists, artists, and photographers globally, highlighting biological processes through microscopic video.

The top prize was awarded to Ning Xu, an optical engineer from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. His winning video utilizes diffractive super-resolution microscopy to capture the abnormal movement of respiratory cilia in a child with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a rare genetic disease. The researcher noted that observing approximately 10 seconds of movement is essential to understanding the condition, which static images cannot provide.

In second place, Nguyen Nam Nhat from Vietnam presented a video featuring a small worm and a unicellular organism exploring their microscopic environment.
