Nikos Androulakis visits Kastellorizo and Ro to assert Greek sovereignty
PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis completed a two-day visit to the remote islands of Kastellorizo and Ro, focusing on national sovereignty and the needs of island residents.
From Kastellorizo, Androulakis asserted that Greece’s sovereign rights in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean are ‘strong and non-negotiable,’ grounded in international maritime law. He emphasized that good neighborly relations with Turkey must be based on respect for international law rather than temporary conditions, and criticized revisionist claims regarding maritime zones and energy infrastructure.
During the visit, Androulakis met with local officials, including the Mayor of Makri, to discuss challenges facing remote communities, such as the need for improved transport, water management, healthcare, and education to ensure residents and youth can remain on the islands. He also met with military personnel and visited the memorial of Despina Achladioti, known as ‘Kyra tis Ro,’ to honor her legacy of maintaining the Greek flag on the island of Ro.
