Nikos Christodoulides and Andy Burnham discuss bilateral ties

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides held a telephone conversation with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments. The two leaders agreed to hold their first official meeting in September during the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.

The discussion covered the strategic importance of strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and the European Union. Christodoulides also addressed the Cyprus issue, emphasizing its status as a top priority. He briefed the Prime Minister on the United Nations Secretary-General’s efforts to restart substantive negotiations within the established framework of UN Security Council resolutions. Christodoulides highlighted the significant role the United Kingdom plays as a guarantor power, a permanent member of the Security Council, and the penholder for resolutions regarding Cyprus.
