Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt strengthen defense alliance in Cairo

Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt have significantly strengthened their defense alliance following a trilateral meeting of defense ministers in Cairo. The ministers, including Greece's Nikos Dendias, Cyprus' Vasilis Palmas, and Egypt's Ashraf Salem Zaher, signed a Joint Declaration aimed at enhancing regional security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.

A central component of the agreement is the commitment to a “rapid and unified response” to any future security threats against the three nations. To achieve this, the countries agreed to intensify communication, information exchange, and the coordination of military capabilities. The cooperation will focus on operational interoperability, joint military exercises and training, maritime security, cyber defense, and the protection of critical infrastructure.

The discussions also emphasized cooperation in new defense technologies and innovation. The ministers highlighted the success of recent joint military exercises, such as Exercise Medusa, in improving combat readiness and coordination. The next trilateral defense ministers' meeting is scheduled to be held in Greece in 2027.
