Greece Defense Minister Nikos Dendias attends memorial and inauguration events

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias participated in several official events on Friday, November 6. He attended a memorial service at the new Glyfada Cemetery to honor fallen Air Force personnel, emphasizing that maintaining national independence and sovereign rights requires sacrifice and the preservation of historical memory.

Dendias also attended the inauguration of the new offices of the Hellenic American Union in Tavros, located at the historic Mitos complex. The move consolidates the organization’s services, including its examination and certification center, under one roof.

Additionally, the Minister inaugurated the renovated bioclimatic northern facade of the Ministry of National Defense headquarters in Athens. The project, which includes a sculpture titled “Ark of National Memory” by Konstantinos Varotsos, was completed through a donation from Piraeus Bank. During the event, Dendias announced he has requested a 250 million euro donation from the Union of Greek Shipowners to fund the procurement of operational capabilities for the Greek Navy, including the potential acquisition of over 1,000 maritime drones.
