Nikos Kaklamanis, prominent doctor and political activist, dies

Nikos Kaklamanis, a prominent nephrologist and political activist, has passed away. He had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Samos Hospital, where he had served for decades.

Kaklamanis was a foundational figure in the medical community of Samos, having founded and modernized the hospital’s Artificial Kidney Unit. During his tenure as the hospital's administrator from late 2015 to mid-2016, he also established the Day Hospital Department for chemotherapy and specialized treatments.

Beyond his medical career, Kaklamanis was a dedicated figure in Greek politics. He held various roles within the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Synaspismos, and SYRIZA, including serving as a member of the SYRIZA Central Committee and a two-time parliamentary candidate for Samos. Political organizations, including SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance and New Left, issued condolences, honoring his lifelong commitment to social justice and medical service.
