Nikos Karanikas criticizes Alexis Tsipras and SYRIZA structure

Nikos Karanikas, a former close associate of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, has issued sharp criticisms against Tsipras and the Greek Left Alliance (ELAS). Speaking to SKAI, Karanikas characterized the party as non-democratic, citing the decision to postpone a party congress until after the elections as evidence of a lack of equal participation.

Karanikas argued that Tsipras has created an “electoral mechanism” rather than a political party, describing the current structure as one where members act more like “subjects” due to political deadlocks and social pressures. He further criticized the former Prime Minister for the lack of effective opposition during the 2019–2023 period and stated that Tsipras’s resignation insulted the democratic arc.

Regarding the current state of SYRIZA, Karanikas noted internal contradictions within the party, specifically mentioning the divide between leadership and members regarding recent internal political shifts.
