Nikos Karvelas and Anna Vissi dispute involves tax scrutiny

A public dispute between composer Nikos Karvelas and singer Anna Vissi has escalated into legal and financial scrutiny. The conflict involves issues of intellectual property, royalties, and recent reports regarding tax audits.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has reportedly initiated investigations into financial data related to Vissi’s concert activities, specifically examining ticket revenues and production expenses for an event at OAKA. Karvelas has issued formal statements categorically denying any tax irregularities, asserting that all personal and corporate incomes are fully declared and that all tax obligations have been met. He has also accused circles close to Vissi of leaking private financial information and has threatened legal action against those spreading what he calls “slanderous reports.”

Public figures and colleagues have weighed in on the rift. Director Giannis Kakleas described Karvelas as an “unpredictable” and “extreme” personality while praising Vissi’s work ethic. Meanwhile, journalist Makis Triantafyllopoulos noted that Karvelas was instrumental to Vissi’s career, having composed the vast majority of her hits, making their professional separation particularly significant. Despite the tension, reports suggest Karvelas is preparing a new musical project with an artist from the “art song” genre.
