Nikos Karvelas disputes ‘decadence’ label during TV interview

During the premiere of the television program ‘Koinonia Ano Kato’, a heated exchange occurred between musician Nikos Karvelas and host Konstantinos Bogdanos. The tension arose when Bogdanos suggested that, for some, Karvelas might be the ‘soundtrack of Greek decadence’ or the ‘personification of decadence.’

Karvelas strongly rejected these characterizations, citing his diverse body of work, which includes songs, philosophy, and poetry. He argued that such an assessment was incorrect and challenged the host to play back the statement. Karvelas concluded the dispute by stating, ‘I am neither a soundtrack, nor a personification, nor anything of the sort. I may be anything else except decadence. I am peak [akmi].’
