Nikos Maziotis to be released after 20-year sentence

Nikos Maziotis, a member of the terrorist organization ‘Revolutionary Struggle’, is expected to be released from prison on September 14, 2026, following the completion of his 20-year sentence.

In a letter written from Domokos Prison, Maziotis stated that he has served 14 years of actual imprisonment and six years through work credits. He noted that he is the first political prisoner in the Greek prison system to serve a full 20-year sentence without suspension. He revealed that seven previous requests for conditional release were rejected by judicial councils because he had not expressed remorse or distanced himself from the actions of the organization.

Maziotis maintained his ideological positions in his letter, stating, ‘I would not change my political-struggle choices even slightly, even if I turned back time.’ He referenced past actions of the group, including the 2003 bombings at the Evelpidon Police Academy and the 2009 car bomb attack at the Athens Stock Exchange. His partner, Paula Roupa, was previously released on conditional terms in November 2023.
