Nikos Tachiaos denies delay of Metro Line 4 works in Kypseli
Nikos Tachiaos, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, has denied reports that the resumption of Metro Line 4 construction works in Kypseli will be postponed until after the elections. Speaking to Meganews, Tachiaos stated that there is no basis for such claims.
While a specific timeline cannot yet be provided as studies are ongoing, the goal is to restart works as soon as possible. Tachiaos emphasized that restarting the tunnel boring machine (metropontika) is urgent for technical reasons; prolonged inactivity could cause the machine's head to seize, making a restart extremely difficult.
The Deputy Minister noted that the safety of residents and their property remains the top priority for the Public sector, Elliniko Metro, and the contractor. Regarding building repairs, he distinguished three categories: buildings above completed tunnels where no subsidence is observed can begin repairs immediately following completed studies; buildings above the current machine location are undergoing vulnerability studies to ensure safety measures are in place before restarting; and further measures will be taken to protect buildings in the upcoming construction zone.
